Lutruwita / Tasmania is generally characterised by lush greenery, temperate rainforests and rugged terrain. Painting her in blue was a design experiment born from the 2019 #30daymapchallenge – and it has stuck with me.

The iconic Overland Track winds its way through the centre of this rugged patch of the planet, a place I’ve had a long connection with and introduced many people to as a wilderness guide.

A strong part of the experience is making your own journey. Without labels, this depiction lets you find your own way…

It is made using ASTER GDEM v3 topography, surface hydrographic data from Geoscience Australia, and OpenStreetMap (https://openstreetmap.org). It was fully rendered in QGIS (https://qqis.org)
