Lutruwita / Tasmania is generally described as the apple island – characterised by lush greenery, temperate rainforests and rugged terrain.

Painting her in blue was a design experiment born from the 2019 #30daymapchallenge – and it has stuck with me.

This first print from the map shows an iconic part of the island and my life there – Cradle Mountain / Lake St Clair national park, part of an extensive world heritage listed wilderness area. The iconic overland track wends its way through this terrain, past the island’s tallest peak and through some of her oldest rainforest. As a wilderness guide, I’ve spent two and a half summers more or less living in this world, revealing her wonders to people from all over the planet and all walks of life…

This map was made using ASTER GDEM v3 topography, surface hydrographic data from Geoscience Australia, and OpenStreetMap (https://openstreetmap.org). It was fully rendered in QGIs (https://qqis.org). It is part of a high resolution map, from which bespoke renders can be made on order – please reach out if you’d love to have a part of the island I haven’t thought of hanging on your wall, or if you’re after custom sizes.
